Although it is one of the region’s most valuable resources, the Anacostia River is severely polluted.  DC Appleseed is working to clean up the Anacostia, an effort that will create jobs, spur economic development, and unleash new recreational opportunities.

The region’s largest health insurance company, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, has a federal charter that obligates it to serve the public as a charitable and benevolent organization.

The District of Columbia has the highest rate of new AIDS cases in the country.

Improving End-of-Life Care

DC Appleseed is working to improve D.C. residents’ opportunities to make timely, informed choices about the nature of care they wish to receive at the end of their lives.

Much of the District’s drinking water flows through lead pipes, creating the potential for spikes in lead levels that can pose a special threat to the health and development of young children.
