Calling on the Council to Support Increased Investment in Adult Literacy 1

Deputy Director Judy Berman testified today before the D.C. Council Committee on Business, Consumer and Regulatory Affairs in support of increased investment in adult literacy in order to help low-skilled adults achieve economic security. The testimony specifically calls for the Council to (1) create an interagency task force, housed at the Workforce Investment Council, to develop a plan to align and connect adult basic skills education with career pathways, and (2) invest $1 million in an Innovation Fund to develop, pilot and evaluate new and promising approaches to adult education.
